Chairmats
are designed to protect your carpet, and facilitate chair movement
throughout your work area. Deciding on the size and shape of your
chairmat is important, but the most important step when choosing a
chairmat is to make sure it is thick enough for your floor type. A
chairmat that is too thin for the office can lead to:
-
Permanent
chair caster indentations in the chairmat
-
Increased
leg and back stress due to reduced chair immobility
-
Carpet
damage from premature chairmat cracking
How
to measure carpet thickness:
1.
Straighten the end of a paper clip.
2.
Sink straightened end of paper clip into the carpet so that it
penatrates the carpet backing and reaches
the floor below (you may have to wiggle the paper clip to force it
through the carpet backing.
3.
Grab the paper clip with your thumb and index finger at the point
that it is flush with top of carpet. Be
sure that you are not matting down the carpet with your hand.
4.
Measure the distance between your fingers and the end of the paper
clip.
1.
Choose the chairmat to fit your floor type.

2.
Choose a chairmat shape to match your desk type.
